Company Information

Intel supports innovation and the advancement of technology through university research grants. Projects funded by Intel look beyond current technology, with a focus on advancing the computer industry at large. Research projects funded by Intel generally have a longer-term focus than internal research and development. University projects also tend to cover areas that are important to the future of the computer industry outside of Intel's current product line. Intel sponsors champion the technology within Intel that comes from funded projects, and they encourage the transfer of ideas from the university to industry.

"The most effective way for corporations to foster research is to create strong interactions with university research institutions. Intel oversees and supports over 300 programs with the goal of sparking technological innovation and advancing the state-of-the-art."
Leslie Vadasz, Chairman, Intel Research Council

Contribution

Intel University Research Programs through the Technology for education 2000 grant, and in concert with Microsoft, has provided the core digital infrastructure to the Hypermedia Studio. This includes many Pentium II and Pentium Xeon workstations and servers, video conferencing systems, and video capture and compression technology. Their contribution will also extend to servers utilizing the forthcoming "Merced" IA-64 64 bit Microprocessor technology, as it becomes available. In addition, Intel has provided the Hypermedia Studio with switched Gigabit Ethernet networking technology, including gigabit to the desktop and gigabit backplane connections to a pair of 24 port 100 megabit ethernet switches, and numerous ethernet network adapters. Intel's continuing support of the HyperMedia Studio has been a very important enabling force in all of the project's activities.
