Context
As a worldwide leader in media research, UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television is uniquely positioned to support the activities of the HyperMedia Studio. The combination of the School’s state-of-the-art facilities and the talents of its faculty and staff provide the proper ingredients for the development of innovative and research.
An important factor in our school's capability to undertake the activities of the HyperMedia Studio is the already existing infrastructure for the production and distribution of multi-camera video content. The Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media, which is within the School of TFT, owns three functional television studios with a master control center, one mobile unit (remote truck), and many other support facilities. Furthermore, the school is equipped with a high-speed intranet and advanced serving capabilities. We also have potential access to the world-renowned UCLA Film and Television Archive, which contains the second largest collection of its kind in the world.
Additionally, the intellectual community at UCLA provides a vast pool of resources from which to draw. The HyperMedia Studio presents a unique opportunity for ground-breaking, multi-disciplinary collaborations with other interested academic units, such as the School of Engineering, the Department of Computer Science, the School of the Arts, and the Center for the Study of Cultural Performance.
The human and infrastructure assets of our school and university give a unique and important potential to the HyperMedia Studio to cover all facets of development from experimental research to creative application.
