Welcome to the Hypermedia Studio
Founded in 1997 by Associate Professor Fabian Wagmister with grants from Intel and Microsoft, the HyperMedia Studio is a unique research unit within the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television devoted to the collaboration of media, the performing arts and cutting-edge engineering technology in pursuit of new genres of creative expression.
Research interests
The Studio’s research includes production of original work by faculty and students, as well as collaborations with other on-campus departments. Most research projects focus on human interaction in immersive and media-rich environments. These environments of artistic expression are an amalgam of theater, interactive media, and existing social spaces. They use advanced technologies, including embedded sensors, intelligent databases, and distributed networks to dynamically shape space and relate the relevance of art and technology to lived realities.
